Simulation of gas spring only attached to one side

Hello.

I would like to simulate the opening of a box and its cover with a gas spring (see attached picture).

The gas spring will be attached to the cover and will apply the force to the box through contact. Once the maximum stroke of the gas spring is reached, the gas spring will lose contact to the box and will move with the cover.

Is it possible to do it with a spring damper?
