Hi everyone,

I am doing a simulation of road sweeper using EDEM and Motionsolve following the example in the link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAApwUt0_fM&ab_channel=%ED%95%9C%EA%B5%AD%EC%95%8C%ED%85%8C%EC%96%B4AltairKorea

(please, see from 20:34)

I confuse to model the sweeper (it is flexible), can you show me the solution to model that?

Thank you!

    Hello,

I believe that this case was not modelled with flexible tynes for the brush in the sweeper, the model may have been created with the assumption of having rigid brushes. A way to model these as flexible within EDEM, which would require some extra steps but would bring the model closer to a real sweeper, would be to create fibres for the tynes using meta-particles and a bonded model.

I will link in the next reply some e-learnings that you may find useful to do this.

    Kind regards

    Ignacio

    Hi Ignacio Diez Alonso

Thanks to your reply, i have understood the meta-particle, that may a solution for my problem.

But, I am still confused about:

    - How to create the fibres (meta-particle) with the exactly position relating to the geometry (using factory or something else)?
    - How to make the fibres (meta-particle) to move with the geometry (rotation movement)?

    Thank you!

    Hello,

In the factory there are a series of settings that allow you to influence the particle generation in it. The one that you would be looking for here would be orientation. You would set it to fixed and Based on how your meta-particle is defined (if the fibre goes along the x, y or z axis) you will need to consequently define the orientation matrix.

This can be a bit challenging, but it can be done by generating the meta-particles in a position or height at which the geometry is placed exactly between two of the particle where there is a small gap that is covered by the contact radius for the bond, but there is no physical particle. Then there would need to be an additional geometry that holds that meta-particle in position so it does not move laterally freely. As I said it will not be straight forward but it could be achieved following this.

    I hope that this helps.

    Kind regards

    Ignacio
