Modelling Air as Solid Body for Optistruct/Radioss
Hi everyone,
I want to model air inside a metal box in Hypermesh and would like to see the pressure on the inner surface of the box due the thermal expansion of the air inside. I have options to use Optistruct and Radioss to run it. I would like to model the air as a solid/shell mesh, as a idea gas. So what material card do I have to use for air, so that I can deifne is as an Ideal gas and what property card?
thanking you all.
regards,
Debarshi

In OptiStruct you can use psolid and assign a material with air properties.
For RADIOSS you have more options, including material hydro. You could use SPH to model the particles for example.
There are a few examples in the documentation of RD using sph or ALE.

Thanks for the reply. In optistruct, what material card do I need to use? And in Radioss, will 'RD-E: 4300 Perfect Gas Modeling with Polynomial EOS' example help?

In OS very simplified you will use an isotropic material MAT1, with alpha as coeff thermal expansion
