MATERIAL ORIENTATION COMPOSITE
Hello,
I am creating a model for a carbon fibre impact attenuator. I need to align the orientation of the elements to make the simulation. As you can see on the figure 1 all the elements are align in X direction except the elements of the fron face. When i select this elements and i change its direction (figure 2) change all the model as you can see in figure 3. I tried to do it from diffrent ways but anything works. How can i align the elements of the front face without change the other elements orientation?

Hi Dario Alonso,
Please can you take close snapshots and explain what is the problem you are facing. In the above images i'm not able to see anything properly.
Is it a Shell mesh or solid mesh?
Thank you

Make sure you select only the face elements and not all elements.

Hi Dario Alonso,
looks like composites: material orientation panel applies to the whole component/property eventhough only a few elements are selected.
As a workaround assign those elements to different component/property and reorient them.

Hi Dario and Ivan,
I am able to apply different orientations for different elements.
Can you let me know which version of HyperMesh are you using?

Hi,
I am using HyperMesh 2017.2.

Ivan,
Do you have the same problem as Dario?
If yes, can you share the sample file for testing?

I have the same problem: when the orientation is modified by element selection in composites: material orientation panel, it affects the global orientation of the component/property. It also changes the X/Y/Z components of the reference vector in the property definition.

Hi Ivan,
I am able to reproduce the same. I will discuss the same with the developers.
This is happening in RADIOSS profile alone.

Hello,
Sorry for ansewring so late. I solve the problem using different laminates and different properties for each zone. My version is Hypermesh 2017.2. When i change the element orientation i select all the elements of the face. Now i will try your solution using only one laminate. Attached you can find a model where you can see what i've done.
Thanks for your help and sorry again for my late answer.

Hi @Dario Alonso and @Ivan
FYI,
Element level orientation definition in RADIOSS will be available soon.
