At what point in the simulation space is considered the far field? Does it depend on the extents of the simulation?
Hello pmcardle,
The definition of a far field can be found in almost any antenna text book. The fields are divided into three regions: Near field, Fresnel region and the (radiating) far field.
The easiest reference is probably https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_and_far_field .
However, in FEKO, if you have a near field request, it will do the near field calculation even in the far field region (far from the model). If you have a far field request, the field at infinity is calculated (removing the 1/r term and also radial phase variation). You can find more details about this in the user manual.
