I wonder what are the steps to re-mesh a part from which I only have solid elements, the geometry is not present.

You can extract the solid skin, using 'faces' panel, delete the solid mesh, and re-work your shell mesh (automesh panel, selecting elements) and then recreate your solid messh. (tetras)
