Hello
can somebody explain how contact patch location for tires is defined?
It seems like it is defined with respect to road marker position. But how is the y component calculated?
Hi Luca,
The dimensions of the contact patch are outlined in the documentation under 'Tire Contact Methods'
Link: https://help.altair.com/hwdesktop/hwx/topics/motionview/fiala_tire_contact_methods_r.htm?zoom_highlight=contact+patch
Tire contact methods calculate the tire penetration and contact patch location used by the tire models to compute the forces and moments. There are two contact methods available with MotionSolve:
The Single Point Contact model assumes the "disc" shape for the tire and rim and calculates the contact point at the intersection of the wheel plane with the road tangent.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Adam!
Not a problem!
