Remit lines that vary

​ I have a remit that has lines that vary in the length.  So 1 patient could have 5 lines but other could have 8.  It just depends on how many rev codes are listed.  I have gotten all the data that is the same and in the same place for all the patients trapped and ready.  It's just the data in the rev codes that I have an issue with.

If I do these separate, then I pull in the monthly totals that throw off the rows so they don't align with the correct patients.

I am not sure what is the best way to fix this.

    Hi Stephanie,

    That depends on how your report is arranged.  If rev codes is nicely formatted in a column then you can use the Advanced tab of Edit Field Properties when defining fields/columns during report trapping.  Note that the screen capture is from Data Prep Studio Report Design but Monarch Classic also has this feature.


    Or you can extract succeeding lines using the Group Footer template.

    If you can show us a sample of how your report is formatted that would be helpful.

    How about a 2 model approach?  Create another model with rev codes as detail template, patient info as append (this will be used to join the 2 models) and a footer template for the drg weight line.  Note that if monthly totals for drg line will not be extracted in this case.

    If you are using Data Prep Studio, you can use 2 models for the same report then join both tables in one workspace.

    I am sure there are more suggestions from other members of the community. :)

    Hi Stephanie,

    Do you want one record per patient or one record per Medicare code? 

    Either should be possible.  Do you have Monarch complete (Classic and Data Prep Studio) or just Classic?  As Mela mentioned, there are features in DPS that might be helpful such as multiple extractions per workspace and the unpivot/pivot functionality if you want each Medicare code in a separate column of a single patient record.

    Is this a text report or PDF?  If text, is there any chance you could edit a one page sample to remove confidential information and provide it to us?

    Hi Stephanie! I could be wrong on this without seeing a full data set but I would think you would be able to capture the 4 lines that are the same for every patient using an Append template and then use the Detail template for the revenue code lines and a Group Footer for the DRG WGHT.

    I'd be happy to help you create a template if you wanted to send me an original file and take out any PHI. Alternatively, I work for a healthcare consulting company so we could also get a non-disclosure between us to allow for sharing of PHI if it's too much trouble to remove.
