How to import streets in WinProp WallMan with .osm?

Hi,

I would like to import an .osm-file in WallMan. Unfortunatley it only imports the buildings and vegetation. Is there a way to import the streets, too?

Thanks!

Best regards!

    • Open WallMan. Click File > Convert Urban Database > Vector Database. Select Open Street Map(*.osm) in Format of source file. Also check Export nonbuilding objects in an *.add file to get the roads.  Upon clicking OK, the map will be saved in "urban database binary" (.odb) format.
    • Open ProMan, click File > Open Database. Select the .odb file.
    • Click Display > Additional Data:Layer Management. Click Load and choose the .add file.
    • The additional non-building objects can now be seen in Layers. Different road types (Footway, Highways, Roads, Service Roads, Tracks) might be available.
    • If you are interested in exporting the roads: Select one of the road types in the above step and click Export. The selected layer will be exported in .txt format. Repeat this for different road types.

    Thanks for your quick answer!

Will the additinal layer then also be considered in the propagation computation or is it only for the optical representation?

Regarding the export: Is there a way to use or import the exported data in my WallMan vectorfile?

    Best regards!

It shouldn't play a role in propagation computation.

As far as I know, there is no way to use these additional layers in WallMan, but also there wouldn't be a use case for using the additional layers in WallMan, assuming they do not play a role in any propagation simulation.

If you are interested in exporting the WallMan vector file and road layers together for visual representation, this you can of course do by exporting the WallMan vector file as .oda.

    Good luck!

    Okay, that's a pity!

I wanted to do some ADAS simulations, where I can place cars on the streets of the imported .osm map. But then I guess I'll have to create the streets in the map by hand.

Thank you very much for your help!

I see! I guess then you can use the exported WallMan building files together with exported street layers from ProMan and place the cars based on the information provided by these exported files.

You can then append the .oda files (WallMan ASCII files) with the car polygons you generated and convert them to .odb for ProMan simulations later.

I have followed similar steps previously to generate a radio map dataset:

    https://ieee-dataport.org/documents/dataset-pathloss-and-toa-radio-maps-localization-application

You can also have a look at the dataset paper for the details.

    Best,

    Cagkan

Okay, I think then I will use the street layers from ProMan as a reference to place the cars or the objects I need in my WallMan file.

Thank you for your great help!

    Best regards!

    You welcome!

Note that there is an offset of coordinates between the coordinates of the building polygons that you can access with the extracted .oda file from WallMan and the associated streets extracted from ProMan. The shift values should be visible in the beginning of the .oda file (can't recall exactly where, but you would notice)

    Good luck and best regards
