Remeshing the whole model?
Hey everybody,
I have a question that seems to be easy but I can't figure it out.
Could anyone tell me how I can remesh a whole model (consists of 20 different components, all are S4R elements) maintaining all connectivities and mesh type (quads) as much as it's possible. I just want to remesh a model that I have to get more finer mesh (40mm to 25mm) but I don't know how to adjust all the factors in 2D>Automesh to get the minimum of changes (less work to clear up the model).
The model just has suare- and rectangular-shaped elements and I'd rather to keep it that way but every time I remesh it all the elements change to deformed quads which is a mess.
Is it even possible to do it or I have to take care of the components one by one!?
Thank you in advance,
- Sam

Hi Sam,
You can try Shift+F6 to split elements while keeping connectivity

Hi Sam,
normally you have to use the automesher and remesh the elements. But it is a complete new mesh, including the mesher 'mistakes' .-). You have to play with the parameters !!!
A second way is to try 2D->split->refine elements. Hypermesh split the element to get the target element size, but don't remesh. Often you have triangles, especially at bad shaped elements.
But you can try it. It works for the whole model too.

Thank you tinh and Mario. The split trick worked (way better than remeshing).
I've noticed that I need to reassign the elements to the sets that I had before splitting. Is there anything alse I need to keep in mind before running my model?

Anything refers to the elements need to be referred again (sets, groups, etc...), try checking each type of entity in model
It's better to test running and look for errors
