modeling a crack

I'm trying to define a crack between the two layers of elements so I assumed a crack shape (green color in the attached screenshot) and put it where I want it and now I don't know how to refine the mesh of the yellow solid component to follow the mesh pattern of the crack! I'm not even sure if my approach to model a small crack is correct or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam

    Hi Sam,

could you please let us know what is the solver and analysis type you are interested in?

In RADIOSS you can use /INICRACK for crack definition.

Sorry... I forgot to give some info!

I'm using Abaqus and it's quasi static cyclic loading to do some fatigue life assessment.

I was working on an assumingly 'defect-free' model but now I need to implement a crack (with a specific size, location and orientation) into my model which I'm stuck!!

Let me know if u need more info.

    thanks
