How to make a void/defect in solid elements?
Could anyone tell me how I can cut through the yellow solid elements with the green shell elements (hollow disk shape) and remesh it appropriately?
I'm not planning to keep the shell elements. they're just for making the void (or defect) in that piece of solid elements. Is there any way to do it in HM automatically or I need to do all of it manually (like refining the mesh around and inside the green disk, then deleting the mesh inside of it, etc)?
thanks

Hi ,
For what type of analysis you want use this mesh?

RCF analysis.

How about getting void with tetrahedral element? Rightnow you have hex elements.

I will definitely change the mesh since the mesh has to be refined but first i was wondering if i can cut through the current solid mesh using the shell mesh or even the geometry of the hallow disk.

Hi,
if it is a simple hallow disk. I think it is possible to do that
start from elems on hallow disk to make your hexa elems

Hi tinh,
Could you explain a little more in detail?
Thanks

Hi,
How small hexa element will you want? small as shell elements?
- first mesh 2d on hallow disk as regular as possible.
- project 2d mesh on outer bound of hexa and do 3D>linear solid to create hexa

My bricks elements (the yellow ones) are like 1mm but I need the elements close to the hollow disk (the green one) as small as 0.05mm.
Thank you very much for the explanation. I try it to see if it works. Most likely I end up coming back here with more questions /emoticons/default_wink.png' srcset='/emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x' title=';)' width='20'>
