What's the difference between external and internal terminals for solid conductors in the steady state AC magnetic application?

The internal electric terminals can be set only on the internal faces of the volumes associated to volume regions and the external electric terminals can be set only to the external faces of the volumes.
From the circuit point of view, there are identical.
