How to assign the Detla Value

Dear guys

I have a question about getDelta when using getDelta in API.  When I follow the "EDEMAPI Tutorial 5 - Relative Wear" and "EDEMAPI Tutorial 7 - HM with Pressure Calculation", the document tell me all Delta is added to the Custom Property Value at the end of the time-step. But I don't understand why use "+=" rather than "=" to assign the Delta value. The Delta +=  Current Delta means New Delta = History Delta + Current Delta ,then the Property Value = History Property Value + History Delta + Current Delta rather than the Property Value = History Property Value + Current Delta. I fell confussed, please help me!
