compacted ballast layer

I tried generating a compacted ballast layer of void ratio 0.6 using the volume packing method. But the volume packing method does not support user define size distribution. Are there any other ways I can use to compact the particles to the void ratio of 0.6 after or during the particles' generation?

    Hi Dela,

Thank you for getting in touch with this question.

The recently released EDEM 2022.0 supports volume packing with user defined particle size distributions so you should be able to use that feature directly.

Alternatively you can model the physcial compaction process using EDEM rigid geometries in combination with the built-in motion controllers (for example you can compact by applying force and torque, sinusoidal vibration etc to a plate that interacts with the material).

I hope this helps and please do not hessitate to get in touch with any further questions on this.

    Best regards,

    Stefan
