WPS to Altair Workbench and Altair SLC

Hello,

In our company we are using WPS (two active users) and our licenses will expire on 31.03.2024. We already have Altair License with some units, as suggested by our contact person.

Now is time to download the Altair workbench and Altair SLC and we have few questions about how exactly to perform the "migration" from WPS to Altair.

Can we still have WPS installed on our computers, when installing the Altair workbench?

After downloading the package, Altair workbench and SLC have to be installed on each user's machine or it is mandatory to have a server machine where to install the SLC and users have to connect to it?

What is consuming Altair license units - downloads/installations or current processing/running code?

Is it possible one user to install the workbench and/or SLC on let's say two machines and use one in a time? Asking this question because currently WPS can be installed on only one computer with a single license.

Thank you

Hi Violeta, A few notes to help you:

"Altair SLC" is the new name for "WPS".

WPS 4 is superseded by Altair SLC 5 (also called Altair SLC 2023.)

WPS workbench and WPS compiler (server) were delivered in a single MSI package.

Altair SLC workbench and Altair SLC compiler are two separate MSI packages - both must be downloaded and installed.

Altair SLC compiler/server is the part that checks for a valid license.

You can install both WPS 4 and Altair SLC 5 on the same computer but watch out. Version 5 WPD files cannot be read by WPS 4, and version 5 workspace folders cannot be used by WPS 4. So if you intend to hop between using the two versions then you must keep all your files completely separate.

The simplest thing is to uninstall WPS 4 and then install Altair SLC 5.

    Best Regards,
    Nico
