HyperBeam: defining beam for arbitrary section varying along beam length?
Hi all,
I need to create beam elements for an already existing geometry which consists of an open channel with following features:
1. arbitrary cross section;
2. the cross section is variable along the beam length (axis), and
3. beam axis is an arbitrary curve (instead of a straight line).
I have seen a tutorial in HyperMesh which give details about how to define beam by creating a section geometry (standard).
However I am looking for a method to import a shell geometry into hypermesh, and ask hyperbeam to generate the beam definitions from this arbitrary geometry (beam nodes and elements).
Is it possible to use hyperbeam for this purpose?

hi,
iam looking for the same thing. It would be nice to set a cut through an existing shell mesh and have hm calculate all the cross sectional properties, also considerung the actual thickness of the shell elements.
is there some help on this?
Mubeen, maybe you have found out something more about this by now or have some workaround?

I don't think you can do that with Hyperworks or any others softwares!
When it's so difficult to modelize as beam model, why not do that with 3D elements. It's so simple, right?

if you have shell geometry CAD data, first cut the CAD by plane at some positions (ends of beams) => you get intesection lines
and with the cutting lines you can make beam section by Hyperbeam>solid section => select the lines and create sections
i think setting orient vectors and offset values may be tough. If model is not big, using 3d is better i think so
