just incase this happens to anyone else.....

the problem was the aspect ratio. when i lowered this the problem resolved. the appearance of the model in abaqus was very unusual.... only showing edges where there was a sharp change of angle.

reduce the aspect ratio and all was resolved!

    Hi Imso,

I want to ask how can you export a model from Hypermesh to Abaqus? I meshed a .stl  mesh model into a 3D solid mesh model but when I want to export the model as .IGES, it stated unable to export model file. Could you share with me what method did you used to do that?

    Best,
