First Order Quads

I'm attempting to mesh a semi-circle. My intention is to use the drag function to make a hex8 mesh of a half-cylinder. As a newbie, I'm really struggling with this. I can mesh it with a 2nd order quad beautifully (it follows a basic butterfly mesh pattern.) As soon as I try a 1st order quad, it refuses to let me adjust the mesh settings at all and there is a random tria in the mesh. Anyone have an idea what to do? If there's a simpler way to make a hex8 mesh of a half cylinder, that would be helpful also.

    Hi, I am unable to understand the issue you are facing. If you were able to mesh the semi-circle with 2nd order quads (without encountering any trias) then you should be able to mesh the same way with 1st order quads as well. In any case, if you want to avoid trias in your quad mesh, then make sure that the sum of element densities on the boundaries of the surface you are meshing is an even number.

    It would be helpful if you could post a snapshot of the issue you are facing, so that I can help out accordingly.

    Why don't you just retain your 2nd order 2d mesh and change the order later using the change order option in hypermesh. This way you can avoid trias right????:d/ .

    Hi,

    try to mesh the section cut of a cylinder (rectangular area) and use 2D->spin.

    choose: spin elements, your axis to spin about, angle = 180, on spin what you need (24)
