2D meshing- Midsurface

Hi,

After viewing the 2D meshing web tutorials, I have a question regarding the midsurface.

Do we always need to do the midsurface for 2D meshing? Can we just keep the original geometry and mesh it?

As I am new to Hypermesh and learning 2D meshing, I am trying to outline the general steps.

Thanks,

    Hi,

If the part is having uniform thickness ,midsurface mesh is recommended.Still in some cases people mesh outer boundry and assign offset thickness .(ex:plastic parts have varying thickness)

Orignal geometry would have top and bottom faces and if you mesh both face and assign thickness, that would not be the correct approach.

Hence for sheet metal and plastic parts midsurface mesh is recommended.

    Regards

Yes, you can do it, but with solid meshing, not shell meshing.

The notion of mid-surface is related to shell meshing only.

I think I got it now. Thank you very much for your answers.
