3D shell stresses

Hello,

I have created a model using shells and launched the simulation. I am now in Hyperview and I'm observing the stresses (Contour panel), but I can see the stresses in only one shell plane per time (middle plane, superior plane or inferior plane). I was wondering, is it possibile to visualize the shell stresses all along the shell thickness (a sort of 3D representation, like in Hypermesh)?

We have a RFE (request for enhancement) with the developers for 3d visualisation of shells, this will be part of the future releases,

If you want to know about stress distribution belong thickness, you have to work with solid element, not shell ones.

Hi Q.NGUYEN-DAI,

that's not correct. Other postprocessors are able to show shell elements with thickness and of course stresses on both sides (Z1, Z2) at the same time.

And theoretical it is possible to show 2D shell stresses like a 3D solid.

When I do shell analysis I don't care about how stress distributed belong thickness. The most important is the stress on upper/lower layer which gives me the min/max of shell structure.

The question is not if it is the most important (maybe for you it is), the question is it it is supported. Hypermesh shows shells like 3D and Hyperview not.

And since for statics you have top and lower layer stresses & mid, you can easy interpolate the visual interpretation.

For LSDyna (or other solvers) e.g. you have more then the top and bottom layer, you have results at every integration point trough the thickness.

For me it is a very nice feature, since max of stresses are still a risk, if you start to averaging results.

But at the end, as Rahul has said, it is planned for the future and that's a nice info, thanks.
