Not able to create response with Abaqus 2017 .odb file

Hello All,

             I have two questions

1. I am trying to do a DOE in Hyperstudy (2017) with ABAQUS (2017) as Solver. I created a new model, parametrized the XX.tpl file, registered the solver and typed XX.INP in solver input file field. The problem occured when i tried to define a response. I ran the simulation in Abaqus once to get the .odb file. I then put the file in 'approaches\nom_1\run__00001\m_1'  to define responses. But when i tried to drag the file into the work area, it says 'file not recognized by Hyperstudy reader' and Hyperstudy text extractor gets selected. Please help me with this problem.

2. Is it possible to do DOE for physical experiments (i.e. without creating an expression for evaluating responses from Design variables) ?

Thank you,

WBR

Do you try the latest update 2017.1 of Hyperworks?

1.Which file you are trying to drag and drop in the work area?To define mass response you should pull .dat file, but if you you pull .inp file you would get above error.

2.Yes it is possible to do DOE for physical experiments.Try with internal math or spreadsheets.Refer Hyperstudy online tutorials.

    1. I tried to drag .odb file into the working area to define Contact area, Contact pressure etc. as a response.

    2. In both internal math and spreadsheets, HS asks me to define an expression for response. But i cannot define a relation bn response and DV for a physical experiment rt?. How to deal with this?

For question 1 i see HW Desktop 2017.1 offers support for Abaqus odb 2017.So if you have access to HW desktop 2017.1 then try same .PFA screenshot of release notes.

For question 2 i will check internally and update you.

    Hello,

    1. The inability to read the file is likely because of version compatibility.  As Rahul has indicated above, you may need HyperWorks 2017.1 to read an Abaqus 2017 file.  From a literal point of view, the error is because the reader doesn't recognize the file, which makes a versioning issue likely.  Can you confirm what happends when you run HW 2017.1?

    2. There are tutorials that show how to read data from outside HyperStudy.  Please see HS-3010 or HS-2200.

An Abaqus .odb file can be read using HyperWorks 14 if the latest hotfix is installed (HyperWorks Desktop 14.0.132).  I have done this on Windows workstations but there is a comment in the release notes saying, 'Abaqus 2017 ODB reader is not supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9 and prior versions.'
