How do we decide the element size to be used for meshing? I have a cylindrical geometry of about 30 meters in diameter & 9 meters in height.

After meshing, on what basis do we decide the threshold element size for quality checking in quality index?

    Hi Jigar,

It is diffcult to decide the quality parameters for element quality check, Few solvers have their own predefined params where as few industires follow their own parameters based on experimental correlation.

I would suggest you to have a look at General Element Quality Checks topic in Altair's  Practical Aspects of Finite Element Simulation (a Study Guide)

    Thank you for your response!

I am not able to conclude properly on element size.

Suppose I take element size of 40,then what would be my min length, max length, failure length(i.e. in fail column),etc

Also, what if I use rbe3 instead of CESTRUCT or viceversa?

for shell, you can set max length 2 times elem size

for aspect 5.0, you can set min (fail) length 1/5 max length

other criterias can be set default

Your question is interesting, not only for you, students, but also for every FEA engineer.

Depending to your application, there're always some technical criteria you have to follow. But the first (and the most) important factor, in my opinion, is experience.
