Hello Everyone,

I am using Hypermesh 14 to perform lattice structure optimization. I am trying to visualize the ..._lattice_optimized.fem file in Hypermesh. I used 1D Detailed Element Representation to view the tapered beam elements, it was showing the tapered beams before but now it is only showing cylindrical beam elements of the average diameter. I think I may have changed something in the settings but I am not sure which. I also tried to reset Hypermesh by deleting the settings files in My Documents but still no luck.

Thanks,

    Hi Mou,

I see uniform cross section and thickness rod elements.

Can you share the base file to check if the same happens at our end?

    Hi Prakash,

Thanks for your answer. Sorry I am not sure what you mean by 'the base file'.

But I attached two screen shots where you can see the following:

    1. FEM file screen shot, showing the PBEAM property line where two cross-sections are defined.

    2. HW screen shot showing the imported fem file, you can see the PBEAM property defining two cross-sections.

The thing is it was working before (showing tapered beams), I don't know what I changed that made it go wrong.

    Thanks,

    Hi Mou,

DIM1 is the intermediate cross section, DIMB(1) with a different cross section will result in a tappered beam.

    Hi Prakash,

Please refer to the following screenshot from HW help on PBEAM. If X(1)/XB is equal to 1.0, then the DIM(1)A references the radius of the beam at end A and DIM(1)B references the radius of the beam at end B and there are no intermediate stations. So basically the beams in the FEM file are indeed tapered beams.

My question still holds, how to get 1D Detailed Element Representation to show the actual tapered beams?

    Thanks,

    Hi Mou,

I can see the value is 1 in your case. I will check with experts and will let you know soon.

It seem to be right that HM does not show tapered beam in Detail Representation mode

maybe new versions of HM will update
