Contact definition and Type 7
Hi all
I was watching a video on youtube , where the contact creation brings the user to choose among the Contact Type 7 or Type 11, but what I see in lower versions is just CONTACT, GROUND, CONVECTION ,...etc
I would like to know how to choose the Contact type in versions 13 and lower

Hi,
Type 7, Type 11...etc are interfaces in RADIOSS user profile. CONTACT, GROUND, CONVECTION,TIE...etc are contacts in OptiStruct user profile.
Please choose RADIOSS as user profile if you are looking for Type 7 or Type 11 interfaces.

Thank you dear George, where in help can I find the discussion about it ?
can I change the profile in the middle of a model ?
Why shouldn't I be able to define the contact type more precisely in optistruct ? isn't optistruct using RADIOS for every cycle of optimization?
also one thing : if I will have to use optistruct, and the case is an optimization , how am I supposed to define the contact appropriately ?

TYPE = SLIDE (default) will allow the contact surfaces to transfer pressure (contact closed), but it will not transfer anything under tension (contact open). For lateral forces, the SLIDE option will transfer loads until the sliding phase (lateral force > friction coefficient x pressure)
TYPE=STICK is interpreted in OptiStruct as an enforced stick condition - such contact interfaces will not enter the sliding phase. The contact will still iterate to transfer pressures with an 'infinite friction' coefficient and can also iterate to re-open, if tension forces occur at a later iteration (unlike the 'no separation' option known from 3rd party solvers).
TYPE=STICK is interpreted in OptiStruct as an enforced stick condition - such contact interfaces will not enter the sliding phase. Also, rotations at the slave node are matched to the rotations of the master patch. The FREEZE condition applies to all respective contact elements, no matter whether open or closed.
This means basically, that the two contact surfaces are 'glued' and will transfer all loads / motions between master and slave (also known as Tied Contact). Usecase is to connect two parts entirely.

Thank you Ank, but I don't see thses options under Optistruct profile.

No, you cannot change the user profile in between. When a user profile is selected, HyperMesh automatically manages loading of templates and FE-input readers for a given solver interface in the current HyperMesh session.
You can define contacts in OptiStruct effectively. I'm attaching a tutorial which shows setting up contact between two parts. Please go through the User Guide of OptiStruct which explains more about contacts in detail. OptiStruct uses its own algorithm for optimization. And I also recommend you to go through various tutorials available in Help on optimization.
