ZOFFS Option & Surface penetration

Hello,

i have the following Problem:

I created 4 Shells using midsurface. The problem is, after creating them everything looked fine so there were no Surfaces penetrating each other.

When i used the tool Penetration the system told me there were several places (where bolts went trough a shell) where penetrations occurred. After checking the Property Card of the bolts i knew the penetrations with the value 2 happened because of the thickness T i added (which was T=4) So i tried ZOFFS-> SURFACE->BOTTOM which actually didn`t made any difference in the penetration Value of 2. Could anybody tell me how to solve that problem ? Is there a way to shrink the Surface model or is it possible to add the surface thickness to the inside direction of the bolts ?

Greetings

    Hi Christian,

For giving thickness to shell elements on one side only you can use ZOFFS=TOP/Bottom option.

Also attaching a tutorial which shows the various options available for fixing penetrations and intersections.

    Hello George,

thank you for your Answer. I already tried the ZOFFS option, but no matter what i do i always get the same results using the penetration check.

That means in my example i always get a penetration depth of  0.999  in the same spot, no matter which setting i choose (MID4 or ZOFFS BOTTOM/TOP).

Seems to me like a failure, because the result stays the same.

    Hello Christian,

Seems to be strange. Will have a workaround in your model and will update you.

    Hi Christian,

Can you try the penetration fix using manual fix tools, where you can select the elements/nodes and can move, This will  work in conjunction with the value entered in the numeric text box adjacent to it.
