You can assume two plies with 0° and 90° orientation, assign thickness of half to each.

hi chaithanya, thanks for reply. i was worried whether that model will give the same or at-lease same mechanical properties, like strength, stiffness, etc.

    Hi Ashok,

For woven fabric you may consider it as a bi-directional ply.

The material properties is what defines whether the ply is a uni-directional or bi-directional.

Fabric is considered as 1 single ply while its bi-directional nature is incorporated in the material properties. If E1 and E2 are equal or almost equal in material card then the ply is asummed bi-directional fabric and the reference material orientation is the longitudinal direction (or Major direction/load direction).

    Hi Prakash,

Is there any thing wrong if we assume two plies with 0° and 90° orientation, assign thickness of half to each,in this case material properties will be defined as unidirectional ply.

    what makes the difference?

    Hi Chaithanya,

I don't think this will make a difference.

In the below picture, You could see, we only have 0 deg and 45 deg plies in the card. In reality, two plies have a weft in their lateral directions.

Yes,the image attachment is a special case-Zone based modelling where 90°plies may not be present. Also,we can change the PCOMPG card, and set THETA to 90°

But we do define plies with 90° right. In fact its user's will to define the angle.
