Opening Stl Files

I just downloaded the trial version of the software. I have numerous *.stl files which I want to evaluate. But none of them seem to be opening. Nothing is visible on the screen other than what menu / buttons we see when the application starts. 

 

It appears on the menu to the left (object > properties) etc. But the part itself is not visible on the screen. Is there something I am doing wrong? Please see image below.

    STL files should open fine. Could you please send a sample STL file that does not open to support@solidthinking.com?
