Problem on converting Rigid body of template model to flexible motion view


Hello Altair support team,
I’m having a difficulty transforming the lower control arm (or any other part) of MacPherson (or any suspension) template in motion view from rigid to flexible model for FEM analysis. I exported the data using load export method as .dat format and when I try convert it to h3d format using flex prep it flags an error ‘’node number does not exist”. I tried different node numbers but the result is the same. I’m using Hyperworks v14.

Hi,
Can you share the entire error message?
Did you provide interface nodes in Flex prep?
If yes, can you check whether the node number is same as in .fem file?

I tried Hyperworks 2017 as well the problem still remains. I have attached the error messages, .dat file and screen shot of the procedure i followed to export load .

I am sorry but this is a little bit confusing for me. Why are you exporting the loads to convert to a flexible body?
If you know the interface nodes, you can directly use the flexprep tool to create flexible h3d file.

Sorry, I'm new to Hyperworks in general, is it possible that you guide through the process of flex prep without load export? My main intention is to analyze the stress and strain on the LCA left and right of the model.

Thanks once again, however, in the tutorial you sent me, the bicycle’s structure is already built in hypermesh in .fem format, so it can be converted to H3d using flexprep.
In my case I have started from motion view existing suspension model which a rigid body setup. I need to convert parts of the assembly (example the lower control arm) into flexible bodies using flex tools load export, then change it to H3d using flex prep and finally analyze the stress/strain. But I have been getting errors while exporting the load and converting it into h3d.

Hi @GHM
You need a .fem file to which has FE data like mesh, material information, interface node details etc... for flexible body.
