Plot of Velocity along node path

Hi,

I'm digging out this thread, I've got a question about this topic that hasn't been answered here or by the pdf in the first post. I'm trying to create a velocity plot of some nodes along the middle axis of a simple straight pipe (CFD) using the measure utility. However, if I choose node path and two nodes in the middle of the inflow and outflow surfaces, the path runs along the outer perimeter of the pipe and not along the shortest path, i.e. the middle axis that I'd want to examine. Does anyone know how to get to the desired path or a path that has not been created automatically?

somehow my post created a new thread, although I replied in an old thread. But no matter.

The problem I'm having with the node path plot is that I use a whole round pipe, and the path finding algorithm always snaps to the outer perimeter. Section cuts don't seem to interfere with that behaviour. You can see my problem in the attached picture. I selected one node on either end of the pipe and I'd want a straight connection via the middle axis, but the path always follows along the outer edge of the pipe. Also, the algorithm seems to select all nodes on the surface containing one of the manually chosen nodes.

When I select a node on the middle axis and one on the perimeter, the chosen path is fine. However, I'd like a method to connect any two or n nodes using the shortest path without the path going somewhere I don't want it to.

Hi Td,

Instead of selecting one node at each end, try to add nodes in between.

Say, 4-8 nodes between both the ends and check if that helps.

I did try that, but apparently I didn't choose enough nodes at first. With 15 nodes along the axis, it works. Thank you for the hint.

Just another thing I found out: The main problem was that I enabled the option 'Clip elements' in the cutting plane tool. The consequence was, that the pathing went all haywire and the path calculation took forever. With 'clip elements' disabled, it works a lot better.
