What is 2D and 3D mass? There is an option to select such mass in HyperMesh for the preferene of Ansys under ET Types.

These options are available under 1D category of HyperMesh which are used for lumped masses. If Mass node is known as a zero dimension element, why do we have these options and where can it be used is what I want to understand. Thanks in advance.

    Hi

Node is zero dimention, but it has 6dofs. If someone want to modeling a structure connect to a node, he need full 6 dofs. So a mass element attached to a node, has more meanings than just a lumped mass

Thank you for your reply Tinh. I understand that, however, I am still not clear with 2D and 3D mass. What exactly it does mean.

2d masses have only z-axis inertia

    It's solver specific maybe

I haven't heard about 2d/3d mass. If you are using ansys, ask for ansys support plz
