Contact of mid surfaces

Hello,

I'm a student. I have a problem with Hypermesh so I'd like to ask somebody...

I must model a structure made of two components, both with a small thickness, in contact with each other.

I would like to use shell elements to model each of the component... so, after importing the CAD geometry, I have extracted the relative midsurfaces. The problem is, in this way the thickness of both components disappeared, leaving a gap between  the two parallel midsurfaces... For this reason, I don't know how to 'tell' the program that there is contact between the two components (and consequentially some forces transmission)... How can i solve this problem?

Thank you anyway

Often midsurfaces have to be cleverly created so that they represent the model exactly,

in such a case, that is when two objects are on top of one another, perhaps midsurface is not the best option, you can use solid elements and contacts.

you can send the model using the dropbox below, so we can take a look and see how to do a midsurface and use shell elements while maintaining contact

Have you seen the midsurfacing section in the training center - http://training.altairuniversity.com/modeling/geometry-2/midsurface-pdf/

also the tutorial documentation on midsurfacing,
