    Hi Sandeep,

Contact surfaces are mainly created for defining interfaces. Especially while defining a contact for solid elements, a contact surface is created using this option.

ok. for shell to shell no need to define Contact surfaces? or if defined any problem?

    Hi Sandeep,

You can define for shell elements also.

    Hi Sandeep,

You can define for shell elements also.

Without Contact surfaces, I can define the contact by picking COMP, SET, ELEMENTS options given in Interface panel.

Then what is need of contact surface. can you help...

    Hi Sandeep,

This depends based on the applications. For certain cases selecting elements or sets may not define the contact perfectly. As an example,  a case like where a billet passes through a tube and both the surfaces are in contact throughout the simulation a contact surface is created for defining the master surface.
