while generating 2nd order tetra mesh using simlab 2019 version , the mid nodes are not following the
geometry .Especially for capturing the fillets region those mid nodes are not capturing the cad shapes .

But in this case of 2017 simlab version , i have no issue with that . Still 2017 is older version

Please let me know if this because of any options i missed

    Hi Harikrishnan,

I checked the 2nd order tetra mesh in SimLab 2019 version. Mid nodes are projecting on the geometry.

I did the following 4 cases,

    Case 1

    • Import CAD geometry
    • Generated volume mesh using Mesh > 3D Create > Volume mesh. I have used Tet10 as element type.

In this case, mid nodes are projecting on the geometry

    Case 2

    • Import CAD geometry
    • Generated surface mesh using Mesh > 2D Create > Surface mesh. I have used Tri6 as element type.
    • Then, generated volume mesh using Mesh > 3D Create > Volume mesh. I have used Tet10 as element type.

In this case, mid nodes are projecting on the geometry

    Case 3

    • Import CAD geometry
    • Assigned body mesh control Mesh > 2D Create > Mesh controls. I have used Tet10 quadratic as element type.
    • Generated surface mesh using Mesh > 2D Create > Surface mesh.
    • Then, generated volume mesh using Mesh > 3D Create > Volume mesh. I have used Tet10 as element type.

In this case, mid nodes are projecting on the geometry

    Case 4

    • Import CAD geometry
    • Generated surface mesh using Mesh > 2D Create > Surface mesh. I have used Tri3 as element type.
    • Then, generated volume mesh using Mesh > 3D Create > Volume mesh. I have used Tet10 as element type.

In this case, mid nodes are not projected on the geometry

Only in case 4, mid nodes are not following the geometry. Can you please let me know the steps you followed to generate 2nd order Tetra mesh?

If you following the steps used in Case 1, 2 and 3, it will follow the mid nodes on the geometry.

    Hope this help you.

    Hi santhoshkumar ,

    thanks for your suggestions

sorry , i forget to mention my steps .

    In my case ,

    •  i meshed 2D mesh in Hypermesh 2019.1 version ( Abaqus profile ) using 2nd Order mesh (STR165) and exported as .inp file
    • import .**** file into simlab2019.1  version and assigned mesh control>volume layer>Number of tet layers
    • Then Volume mesh > Tet10 > assigned quality >Advanced options(all surfaces)>click ok

It's generated 3D mesh ,but those midnodes in fillets area are not captured . I also try with Simlab2017 version . it's fine , no issues on fillet region

Like you mentioned 2D mesh generate in simlab , it's good option but currently i am not good at 2d mesh in simlab .

Please let me , if in my steps if i miss something or if there is any problem using 2d mesh from hypermesh and using in simlab2019 version

    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Harikrishnan,

I checked with the development team. You are correct. There is a regression in SimLab 2019.1 version where the mid nodes are not followed the geometry during tetra mesh with volume layer mesh control.

This issue is fixed in SimLab 2019.2 version. Can you please try this in SimLab 2019.2 version?

Download SimLab 2019.2 version from https://connect.altair.com/

    Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
