How to create mid mesh for long thin plate?

I have very long (large) plate, I would like to use SHELL mesh to save computation time?

May I know how to extract mid Mesh for Long THIN Plate?

  You can use Mid Mesh tool from Mesh >  2D Create (drop down).

  It works but it is very slow for very simple model.
