Utilizing licenses when overseas

Hello,

Soon, I will be going on a business trip overseas where I will be doing CAE work, therefore I need to have access to our Hyperworks licenses, which are hosted on my local workstation.

Basically, I wanted to ask if there are some kind of geographical restrictions when using licenses? Can I use my licenses on my laptop when I'm overseas hooked up to the company's VPN?

Also, I've been told that I can borrow licenses which presumably I can save on my laptop and use while being overseas. However, my business trip is long (around 4 weeks), and I will only be doing the CAE tasks during the last two weeks. Therefore, the maximum borrowing period will be over when I'm due for work if I borrow the licenses before departing.

So, my second question: Is it possible to borrow the licenses over the network?

Thank you for your help,

Hi you need to check with your IT admin or the one administering the license server for certain details,

In general the license file will specify the regions for which it is enabled, so you will need to check if the region you are travelling to is enabled, if not it will not work.

Licenses can be borrowed by client machines that are intermittently connected to the network. When the licenses are borrowed, the client machine can be disconnected from the network, and will be able to run the applications for as long as the borrowed license is valid. When the licenses are borrowed from the license server, the licenses remain checked out and unavailable to other clients until the borrowing period expires or the licenses are returned.

the duration the license file can be borrowed is set by the admin in the options file, hence this can be adjusted.

Actually, I'm the one administering the licenses, but we've only recently started using Altair products, so I'm not very familiar with the details.

I checked my license and found the following:

Feature: GlobalZoneAP Version: 18.0 Vendor: ALTAIR

Start date: 2018-07-27 Expire date: 2019-08-12

Key type: EXCLUSIVE License sharing: CUSTOM VIRTUAL

I'm travelling to Europe, and I suppose the AP above stands for Asia Pacific? So I guess I wouldn't be able to connect to our server while in Europe?

Also, if I understand you correctly, I could for example access my license server through remote access while overseas, borrow the license, send it to my laptop, and then use the software for the borrowing duration, without being connected to the license server's network?

Note that you can contact local commercial support to help you step by step for your requirements https://altairhyperworks.com/ClientCenterHWSupportProduct.aspx

Yes, if all you have is an AP feature and no EU feature, then it is not possible to work in that timezone,

No actions should be possible via a remote connection on the license server,
