RADAR COVERAGE ANAYLYSIS WITH JAMMERS USING ALTAIR WRAP


In this tutorial, we demonstrate radar coverage analysis with and without jammers. 2D and 3D Results for these calculations were presented in WRAP Map Viewer.

Introduction:

The Radar Coverage tool in WRAP enables the user to calculate the long-range coverage based on target height and radar cross section. The tool performs the following calculations:

The calculation area may be the defined search sector of the radar, a circular area specified around a radar station or an area defined in the Map Viewer. It is also possible to perform calculations for different height layers and show the result for each layer in the Map Viewer or as a volume in the 3D Map Viewer.

 

Radar Cross Section (RCS) for a Given Probability of Detection

The required RCS of the target for a given probability of detection (Pd) using Swerling target models is calculated.

The calculation is performed for a specific target height entered to perform a volume calculation. The user can also specify the propagation model to include diffraction, reflection, rain attenuation etc. 

Parameters included in the calculation are the effects of radar antenna pattern in azimuth, elevation and tilt, antenna rotation, as well the complete pattern of the jamming antenna. The minimum detectable RCS is calculated at each raster point. The result is presented as a coverage plot with different RCS values. The effect of jamming is that a larger RCS is required for a given distance to the target.

 

Results:

Radar coverage results for calculations over an area were displayed in the 2D and 3D maps.
