Panopticon’s senior product manager Theo S. Klemming has recorded a series of new tutorial videos explaining how several important features in Panopticon Real-Time 2021.2 work. Thanks Theo!
Drag Data Columns Directly to the Settings Panel
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117488
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=8e9b47b21b4dc110507ca6442a4bcb6e
Description: This video shows how to drag data columns directly to the variable list when building dashboards. Starting with release 2021.2, the entire settings panel has been made into a "hot zone" that dashboard designers can drag and drop columns to. You no longer need to target the settings pill precisely to add additional data columns.
Advantages of 3D Scatterplot Data Visualizations
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117488
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=e610d7fa1b4dc110507ca6442a4bcbb7
Description: This video explains the benefits of using the 3D scatterplot data visualization. The 3D scatterplot is often more useful than a regular 2D scatterplot when you need to understand the correlation between three variables instead of only two. In the 3D scatterplot, we can twist and turn the display with the mouse pointer and observe the dataset from any angle and perspective. In contrast, 2D scatterplots require use of several different visualizations in combination to convey the same information.
Use Action Forms
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117490
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=fff0db7e1b4dc110507ca6442a4bcb06
Description: This video explains how to use Action Forms in Panopticon. New forms controls in release 2021.2 enable dashboard designers to set several parameter values at the same time. Without a forms control, a value change to any parameter used by a data table automatically triggers a data table reload. Adding a forms control makes dashboards more responsive by eliminating excessive data table reloads. The data table will reload only once when the dashboard user clicks on the Forms button, setting new values for all parameters and triggering a single data table reload.
Add Custom Fonts to the Altair® Panopticon™ Server
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117491
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=da8edbfa1bcdc110507ca6442a4bcb3c
Description: This video explains how to add custom fonts to the server that may then be applied in dashboards and PDF report outputs. With release 2021.2 and above, dashboard designers with administrator access can upload TrueType or OpenType fonts to the server and use them in dashboards and PDF reports. The fonts will then be available to use in theme configurations or specific settings for dashboard parts.
Give Users Interactive Control of the Breakdown
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117492
URL: https://community.altair.com/community?id=kb_article&sys_id=b143abb21b010510507ca6442a4bcb08
Description: This video shows how designers can add breakdowns to their dashboards that users can control for themselves. When adding visualizations to dashboards, designers can expose control over data breakdown (data hierarchy) to end users. This allows dashboard users to control which text columns are employed in the data hierarchy. In release 2021.2 and above, the end user can access a sorted list of columns as well as a search bar to help locate the desired text columns.
Build and Manage Breakdowns in Panopticon 2021.2 and Above
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117493
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=d9882fba1b010510507ca6442a4bcbb7
Description: Panopticon 2021.2 makes it easier than ever to add breakdowns to your dashboards. Breakdowns enable users to interact with the data to gain new perspectives and develop insights into causal relationships. When creating a visualization and deciding how the data will be organized, dashboard designers work with columns, rows, and items in the settings panel. Prior to release 2021.2, these settings were collectively labeled "Breakdown". Designers create data hierarchies by adding two or more columns to the items setting and create alternative data hierarchies by pressing the "New Breakdown" button.
Add Custom Titles and Formats to Filters
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117494
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=c49d2ff21b410510507ca6442a4bcb3a
Description: This video explains how to add custom titles and formats to data columns that may then be displayed in filter boxes. Dashboard designers have the option of setting custom titles for data columns. For numeric and time columns, you can also set the presentation format. This video shows how to accomplish this a column used in a filter box. Custom titles and format settings are available in release 2021.2 and above.
Manage Dashboard Tabs
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117495
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=12f37bbe1b410510507ca6442a4bcb2f
Description: This video explains how designers can interact with and manage the tabs in their dashboards. Designers can rename, duplicate, remove, and move tabs with their dashboards. The features shown in the video are available in release 2021.2 and above and provide more intuitive ways of performing these tasks.
Manage Dashboard Parts
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117496
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=dc7bbffa1b810510507ca6442a4bcb70
Description: This video explains how designers can cut, paste, copy, move, delete, and align dashboard parts. With version 2021.2 and above, dashboard designers can quickly organize parts on a dashboard with multi-select and context menu options to align items within a row or column and distribute items horizontally or vertically.
Add Custom Themes to Workbooks
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117499
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=e52364d71b4d8510507ca6442a4bcb83
Description: This video shows how to create and use custom themes, which enable designers to incorporate logos, color schemes, fonts, and other brand signifiers into their dashboards.
Set Presentation and Parsing Formats for Time Columns
Knowledgebase Article Number: KB0117500
URL: https://community.altair.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=08f4e09b1b4d8510507ca6442a4bcb33
Description: Panopticon enables designers to set formats for date/time columns that control how the data is parsed for proper loading as well as how date/time information is displayed in dashboards. This video shows how to control formats for columns containing time and date data as well as how to control the way such data is presented in finished dashboards. When loading date/time data from a data source, a format specification is required to assure that the data is correctly understood. This format is set in data connector setting for each column containing datetime values. However, the format found in the data source may not be the format you want to display in the dashboard. To control the display format, you specify a format in the columns section of the data source, also known as the data schema editor.
