Result type - Size optimisation /How read the thickness or orientation by ply with PCOMPG in Hyperview
Hello,
If I made a SZTOSH optimisation with PCOMPG.
How can I select the result type by "layers" in hyperview ? I would like to select the ID of plies inially set up in PCOMPG and appreciate the results in thickness or orientation moving if I make optimisation with both design variables.
Is there any special outputs or cards to add before launch the optimisation in hypermesh ?
thanks in advance

Dear Julien,
thanks for your message.
I try to put your input card without success.
Here enclosed the .fem.

thanks in advance for your tips.

Hello,
I think a DSIZE card on your PCOMPG is missing in your optimization.
Can you have a look to the following Optistruct tutorial "OS-T: 3200 Design of a Composite Aircraft Underbelly Fairing" (available in OS online help) to know how to definie this kind of card.
Thanks and Regards

Hello,
Ply thickness should be available under Orientation Thickness (s) that is available in h3d file.
Can you check your h3d file?
Thanks and Regards

Thanks for your reply.
It is not available in .h3d. I have no the possiblity to choose "ply thickness" or "ply orientation". Perhaps I have to put special additional card in hypermesh before running the optimisation ?
Here enclosed screenshoots of the hypersmesh PCOMPG (x2, with two plies in each) and Discrete Design Variables, Design variable and links.
In definitive, I would like to have the name of GPly (initially input in PCOMPG property) in hyperview with the result in thickness and orientation.
thanks in advance for your tips

Hello,
With PCOMPG, you will be able to retrieve ply thickness information in h3d under output "Ply thickness (s)"
Hope this help

Dear Julien,
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately not, when I open *.des.h3d result file, the field "layers" is still in grey.
Could you please share a screen shot of your .fem in the beginning ?
Perhaps I miss one output card.
Mine is below:
thanks in advance

Hello,
Here is my file :
There is no specific output card queried to get the "Ply Thicknesses" result type in Hyperview.
Can you share your .fem file to try to help you?
Thanks and Regards

Dear Julien,
You're right it was DSIZE card. Now it works for thicknesses.
I can now appreciate the variation of thickness in each ply PCOMPG. Can I see the orientation changes as well ? As I have declared an "orientation" design variable ?
I would like to select the ID ply and can see the thickness (done ! thanks) and the orientation (0, 45, 90 or 135deg as input in the DDVAL)
Thanks a lot

Additionally, I would like to give the same IDPly name in each property PCOMPG (prop6, prop7 below) and assign different design variables in thickness (t1, t2, t3, t4) and orientation (theta1, theta2, theta3, theta4). As a result, I will get in Hyperview the result in thickness and orientation on the whole part surface when I click on "Ply 1" and "Ply 2"

Is it doable ?
thanks in advance
that will be my last message ;-)

Hi,
can you add a Balance parameter to your DSIZE card (as explained in the tutorial).
This will allow you to see the orientation results.
Thanks and regards

Dear Julien,
I check the option BALANCE but it is not exactly what I seek.
Do you have a look on my previous message above ?
In definitive, I would like to have "ply orientation" in hyperview. And the choice to tick the ID Ply. Is it possible ?
And, as described in my previous message, I would like to put two same ID ply in two different PCOMPG in order to get the thickness or orientations on the whole surface in one time.
thanks a lot

Hi,
I am not an Optistruct expert, so I can not help you more on this subject.
Will ask my colleagues to have a look to your request to help you.

Dear Julien, I hope you're fine.
Sorry to get back to you. Did you have time to ask to your colleague for this option "ply orientation(s) " or "ply angle(s)" ?
I try to use several option, but I am currently in a dead end ....:-(
thanks !

Hello,
Which version of OS are you using to run your analysis?
It appears than with OS 2020.0.1 Ply Angle output is not available.
Can you try to run your analysis with a more version of OS, like 2021 for example?
On my side, with OS 2021, I've got these results for your model:
can you try and let me know?
Thanks and Regards

Dear Julien,
thanks a lot for your reply. Indeed I have 2019 version, I will set up the 2021 to get the good results.
Strange because I used in 2013 and I remember this option was already included in altair. That means you removed it between 2014 and 2021, is it possible ?
