having hexahedral mesh

Hi there,

I am working on a knee project and my goal is to mesh the its different parts. As you know different parts of these such as femur, tibia, ACL and etc have really complex geometry. I have gotten the final shape from CT scan files.

Right now I need to kind of meshing style. First C3D8 for bones and C3D20 hex mesh for the soft tissues. I can not find a good method to mesh my shapes in Hypermesh in the style that I have attached to this email. Attached is a sample picture of what I want at the end.

I would really appreciate if you tell me how I can have such meshing with control on my mesh density by using Hypermesh.

Also, I should mentioned that I have worked with shrink wrap. As you know it was not accurate and also it has taken me too many elements that I cannot run such huge number in Abaqus.

Thank you for your help

Regards;

Amir

Hi, I guess you need to find another mesh tool. such as IA-FEMesh

    hi,

i think with any 3d mesh session, you have to devide your geometry into mappable region

then you can control density each region. just thinking how to make them mappable

i see your geometry is more simple than a cushion, so you should try manual mesh, it's not so difficult

    havve a good job

    Hi,

I agree with 'tinh', also it is better to create sections (cross sections) across the geometry and use 'solid map' option avaliable in the 3d-panel.

your geometry looks reasonable in terms of the effort required to mesh it. Use the top-down meshing approach to mesh the component.

I have also attached an attachment with some steps, although the example I used to illustrate the approach is very simple, you can still use the approach to build your model.

Hope this answers your question, good luck.

for these kind of parts the BesT way is to use Morphing !  try it and u'll get surprised yourself !! image/emoticons/default_smile.png' alt=':)' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' width='20' height='20'>

    Hi

Thank you for your response to my question.

I would appreciate if you tell me how to create those cross-section on my geometry.

Actually I have too many similar parts (femur) that want to be meshed. Is there a way to create a block around for one femur and then introduce the geometry of the other femur into this block. the total shape of femurs are similar to each other and there is  little differences between them. So if I reach to a good block for the first shape I can put the others in it and by just some modification can expedite the process.

Again thank you so much for your help.

    Regards

    Hello,

In your case you should study a bit about morphing, it will be very helpful when you want to stretch current mesh to match new geometry
