Interface laminate problem

Hi, I'm having problem making the interface laminate work as it should. I would be very thankful if someone could help with this problem.

 

I'm trying to model a battery casing the same way it would be manufactured, in our case the inner ribs would be laminated onto the outer frame and the floor of the casing. At all other edges, elements are detached from each other.

 

I double checked all the ply definitions (surfaces) and the order of plies in the interface (followed the normals) but the problem will not go away. I am using PCOMPP property card with Z0 'real', and blank Z0.
The problem occurs on surfaces where there is a change in element normals. Except for that, the problem also occured only on one of the two identical ribs (on each side the normals are the same, but the result is different).

 

 

 

I had some experience before with interface laminates but it seems like I'm missing something. I can upload the model if it is needed?

    Hi,

    I watched the video again, and as before I think I'm doing everything the same way as in the video. 

    The only thing different is that I use only one property card (PCOMPP) in the whole model. Is this OK?

     

    I would kindly appreciate if someone could have a quick look at the model if that is possible?

    this is ok.

     

    Define the interfaces properly again. Also, make sure you have selected correct set of elements while creating the laminates. I think there are some elements which you have chosen wrong, that is causing trouble.

    I started defining the interfaces again, inner rib by inner rib, to try and see where the problem is. Now watch what happens:

    I define the interaction of the front left small rib circled in the picture, and part of my inner rear rib loses proper definition even though it was previously defined and good.
    In the pictures the inner ribs are defined to be interfacing with the floor and the sides without interface with central rib, for troubleshooting purposes.

     

    EDIT: that problem was corrected by defining the base surfaces.

    Now the problem is only with the middle rib, the situation is the same as on the pictures before.

    I made some changes to the model (to properly intersect the middle rib with the smaller ones) so I think that should be ok now with the new mesh and checked definitions.

    I'm still having problems with the middle rib interactions. I can only get it to work if I remove all other interfaces, along with the interface which connects right and left laminates of the middle rib.

    Why does this definition of the inner plies interface cause this problem since they are not in contact with outer plies? 
    I'm trying to achieve 3 interfaces on the same surface, could that cause a problem?

    Hi Matt_03,

     

    Please make sure all the ribs are connected properly (They make T- connection). Then, you create the interfaces again. Make sure you define interfaces in proper order with respect to normal's.

    Also, if possible try defining separate interfaces only for ribs.

    The ribs are connected in the new model, as I wrote before. 

    I thought of trying with more interfaces but wouldn't that cause an error because 1 ply would be defined in different laminates?
     

     

     

    So I ran the analysis just in case and it ran without any errors. This is a ply for example which was wrongly displayed during modeling:

    I guess that it's ok then. It seems this is something that developers could improve for future versions of the software if that is possible.

    Hi Matt_03,

     

    There is problem in the modelling. You need to define the interfaces properly.

    You can see in the above image that, you can create interfaces properly for other ribs. It means, there is no issue with the software. It has something to with the Modelling. So, try to define proper interfaces.

    The faulty interfaces on that picture were defined in the same way as the good ones. If you want you can open the last model I uploaded and try to find a fault. All normals were obeyed everywhere and all the plies are completely defined.
