Re: Lattice Structures Export
Your welcome Sebastien,
The tcl script I was referring to does not seem to be in the file exchange unfortunately. However extracting the tapered beams should be relatively straighforward.
Basically, for each tapered beam or element with card image PBEAML, get the dimensions of both radii. From there you create a solid cone using the coordinates of nodes associated with the beams. Continue until all the beams have been selected. Then when all the cones are created, mesh the exterior with trias and then export to stl. The final step is to merge the cones in another software.
If you haven't used tcl before then you should look into the help files to learn more about the hypermesh api. Your commands are also printed out in a 'command.tcl' file during hypermesh sessions.
Unable to create file due to "Run-time error '381': Invalid property array index"
I am unable to get S-FRAME to allow me to create a new file. Every time I select "New 2D" or "New 3D", I get the error message: "Run-time error '381': Invalid property array index".
I have attempted to troubleshoot the problem in the following ways:
- I have uninstalled and re-installed the program multiple times
- I have tried installing from both the MSI and EXE version of the installer
- I have tried installing an older version of the software
- I have verified my Windows version is up to date, and I have used the SFC and DISM commands in CMD to verify my file system and windows installation is not corrupt
- I have used the repair option in control panel for the program installation
No matter what I do, I can't seem to get the software to start working. Unfortunately, I also haven't been able to find any articles or discussion threads from other users experiencing similar issues with S-FRAME or any other Altair software.
If you have experienced this problem and know how to resolve it, or if you think I've missed some obvious troubleshooting steps, please let me know. I have attached a photo of the error message.
Re: Issue with Shell Elements Intersecting 3D Elements in HyperWorks Simulations
Hi Paulo,
In your opinion the connection setup in this tutorial: https://2023.help.altair.com/2023/hwsolvers/os/topics/solvers/os/rubber_ring_hwx_tutorial_r.htm#reference_mtw_vt2_nwb, Isn't correct? Because I used this tutorial and found the same intersection?
Ali,
I wouldn't say "not correct". Although, there's one setting in the PCONT property that might help with contact penetration. GPAD → THICK

And then, you can check Contact Deformation SPOS / Normal (Penetration) output to check actual values for penetration.

Visually, there's no penetration. But I can see from the contour that there's some. Is it acceptable? Should you refine your mesh in the contact region? It all depends on your model.
But if you have set this up exactly like the tutorial and you're seeing that much of visual penetration, then there might be something odd going on. Can you open the model I attach and check this?
Kind Regards,
Paulo Libório.
Re: Eror EDEMCal_No EDEM executable found
Hi Isabel
In the EDEM executable field, you will want to specify the full path of the EDEM executable. Generally, it is in your EDEM installation. For example, for me, it is "C:/Program Files/Altair/2022.3/EDEM/bin/edem.exe".
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Jerrin Job
Re: Lattice Structures Export
I believe that there is a tcl script in the file exchange that can create cylinders from the tapered 1d elements. From there you can export the cylinders as stl objects and then use another software to merge them all together (meshmixer). Another method that might work is by using Altair Inspire to automatically generate the stl file with the lattice beams.

Re: Ansys CFX having trouble reading in mesh
As per my experience, the most compatible way was to export Fluent .msh file format from HyperMesh or HyperMesh-CFD and import this in CFX
Re: Issue with Shell Elements Intersecting 3D Elements in HyperWorks Simulations
It is when I am plotting the results in hyperview, during the animation it happens.
Hey Ali,
If components are penetrating during results visualization, it means lack of or improper setup of contacts between them.
