Edges for Insert Elements in 2023
Hi,
I have been using insert elements to connect Shell Elements to Solid Elements. Sometimes, in order to check connectivity between those insert elements to the solid by taking Free edges. Today, while working in Hypermesh 2023, I am surprised to know that the free edges are formed although the nodes of insert elements are connected to the solid elements. Basically, the solid elements are omitted for calculating the free edges. I eager to know the logic behind it. You can see the no edges are formed in the first picture (old GUI) and edges formed in second picture (2023)

Hello
Yes, the methodology changed for detecting free edges. It only applies to structural shell elements. So, yes, in this case the edge is free even though it has nodal equivalence to the solids.
I would recommend you create Face elements on the Solid to detect as you did previously
thanks

And actually I just heard from development that this will be updated to more closely match the legacy behavior between the shell/solid interface.
