Shape optimization after topology optimization in optistruct

Hi,

I am student of M. Tech., and a new user of optistruct. In my project I want to design a car seat back frame for certain purpose. I performed topology optimization and got primery shape. Model obtained after converting to IGES is not continuos or smooth and contains many lines and corners.

If I am to go for shape optimization on above model, what should be the next procedure?

Should I automesh the model or is there any way to get smooth meshing?

Regards:

Ravi

    Ravi,

The purpose of performing Topology optimization is to understand what should be the best material layout for the available design space, constraints and loads. So what we get in IGES needs to be taken to a CAD software, get proper model and then import CAD model back in HM and continue for shape optimization.

Meshing the converted IGES may not give good quality mesh, and you may face problem of failed element while performing further optimization process.

    Thanks,

    OS Team.
