How to separate design response from non response area ?

Hello

I am new to this forum and I am stuck with a pretty basic problem, which, however, I do not know how to solve.

I am trying to do the optimization of a monocoque(carbon-fiber). I have imported the geomery  as a singe surface from another CAD program as IGES and what I am trying to do now is to separate the design areas from the non-design areas.

In order to do that, I am assigning the properties I create to the elements from the design areas. Afterwards I create a new component with the property assigned to the elements. This works, since when I hide the 'lvl0' component, I am able to see only the areas I assigned the properties to.

However, this area stays with the color assigned to 'lvl0' component, even when I hide it. And when i delete 'lvl0'the model dissapears completely.

My question being: is there anyway to divide the original component so I can be able to see the different parts of the monocoque in different colors?

This is very important since i have a lot of different design areas and with different colors would be a lot easier to control the properties of every area.

Thank you very much in advance

    Hi bsp318

You can organize elements into different components using Organize entities panel. (Shift+F11 is the shortcut for Organize entities)

Create a compoenent with name say non-design, Select the elements which you want to keep in non-design, set the destination component as non-design and click Move
