drape tool question

 Dear all

 

Some help needed on the drape tool. I need to design these frames flat but need to have them in curve afterwards for tools. I thought with the drape tool this would be a good way. However, I don't get the tool correctly. What I really need is that the drape tool deforms the flat surface the same way as when you heat it up and press it onto the surface. That means the top bar line of the two surfaces has to be the same length, no matter if it's flat or curved. Right now, the tool is not doing that but changing the original flat shape into something similar. What is the way to do as I wish, having the flat surface curved in the exact same surface dimensions. Of course the curved gets shorter but this is what I wish.
