Getting Started with Managed Altair Units

Before using your Managed Altair Units, there are a few steps you need to go through:

  1. Identify one or more company admin for Altair One and get them familiar with the Altair One administration portal through this introductory video.

    The full documentation can be found on our website.

  2. Users are on-boarded by the company admins. Altair Support can help setting up auto-routing for automatic addition of users to your account.

  3. Users check that their password matches the requirements for activating from an application.
    Passwords should only contain the following characters
    !"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[\]^_`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~

    If they contain any other character, they need to be updated.

  4. Users or IT department gets software from our marketplace and install it.

  5. If you are accessing Internet through a proxy, you or your IT department check that the proxy is properly configured to allow traffic to our servers as listed in this article.
    For HPC environment, each compute node must have access to the servers listed in this article.

  6. Users activate their products on first start.

Additionally if you are an existing customer switching from On-Premise units to Managed Altair Units, please check the following:

  1. Deactivate the ALTAIR_LICENSE_PATH environment variable on each user machine (e.g. rename it to _ALTAIR_LICENSE_PATH)

  2. If a license server is on the machine where applications are started and is not in use anymore, stop that license server.
    If a license server is on the machine where applications are started and is still used by other users, define the environment variable, ALM_HHWU=T. This will tell applications to directly try getting Managed Altair Units and skip the local license server.
