As we introduced several significant changes for Abaqus in 2022, the article below isolates form the general release notes the improvments that are related to Abaqus.
2022.3 Significant changes:
Enhancements
- Sub-Categories for Load Collectors in Abaqus Interface
Load collectors are now organized into sub-categories in the Model Browser under the Abaqus interface, to help in quick review.
The Create Set option has been added to the context menu for Nodes & Element selection in OptiStruct, Radioss, Abaqus, ADVC, LS-DYNA, and Permas. This is supported in idle and the Organize tool.

- New Keyword: *INELASTIC HEAT FRACTION.
- New Element Type for heat transfer: C3D6HT.
- Modelchecker: Overconstraint check for dependent nodes in coupling constrains was added.
Resolved Issues
- Duplicate names for sets no longer have an issue with renumbering and renaming.
- New dataline added for *CAVITY DEFINITION to have more than two surfaces.
- Property definition on compound sets across includes was lost in export and the issue is resolved.
- The keyword *GAP no longer has missing data, such as slip rate or friction coefficient.
- Search issue with *FLUID BEHAVIOR has been resolved. It will now lead to the right material card.
- An issue with Entity State Browser on export/active status for migrated keywords (*NON-STRUCTURAL MASS, *RIGID BODY) has been resolved.
- An issue with the keyword *CONTACT INTERFERENCE importing wrong surfaces with input file import has been resolved.

2022.2 Significant changes:
Enhancements
- Element set on component is migrated to property.
- You need to ensure the property name is the same as the element set on which the property will be assigned to get the desired template behavior.
- Element set will be written on the exported input file in line with *ELEMENT.
- Structural and thermal loads from classic HyperWorks have been migrated to engineering loads which can be accessed from the Solver Browser with the Load entity.
- The keyword *NONSTRUCTURAL MASS is migrated from the property to the Solver Mass entity and can be accessed from the Model Browser. A model check is also added.
Updated Keywords
- Added CSTATUS output to *OUTPUT, HISTORY
Resolved Issues
- An issue with contact segments changed on Save/Open is fixed.
- An issue with syntax change on *FASTENER PROPERTY is resolved.
- Find and Replace tool had a selection called “ALL” causing a database error. This issue is resolved.
- A HW2017 generated deck was not readable in 2022 version. This issue is resolved.
- An application error on CLOAD review in loadstep manager is resolved.
- A few segmentation errors observed on random model import are resolved.
- Pretension manager tool was not invoking the loads after body force tools were used. This issue is resolved.
- When a new contact pair was added to a *MODEL CHANGE, the existing pair was removed. This issue is resolved
Known Issues
- When DLOAD from classic loads is absorbed to migrated DLOAD, a surface is created with inward facing normal on solid elements. This is just a graphics issue which on export and import will appear correct. This will be fixed in future release.

2022.1 Significant changes:
New Features
- Segments Selection and Manipulation
Individual segments can be selected from idle. Organize, delete, and other advanced options are available.
A new user comments entity is implemented which allows you to add comments of your choice to the input file for the main deck and include files.
Enhancements
- Legacy Comments Support (see article above about New model organization for more details)
Component and Property legacy comments support are available while exporting the input file.
- Redundant Entity Management for Sets
Allows you to realize undefined sets referred by other entities when the undefined sets come from a secondary import such as include files.
- Performance of topology faces and edges selection has been improved in many scenarios, including edition of contact segments and/or contact surfaces
- Consolidate for AutoContact
Consolidation of detected contact/tie in an AutoContact search has been re-introduced.
- Contact Pair Selection for Model Change
While defining model change, selection of a contact pair is now allowed instead of main and secondary surface.
- Model Check Validation: Check enabled for elements with missing property assignment.
- Updated Keywords
CSTATUS in *CONTACT OUTPUT
CURRENT CONTACT in *COHESIVE BEHAVIOR
Resolved Issues
- Multiple issues and application errors in Load step manager are resolved.
- Model checker issue for kinematic coupling is fixed.
- Model checker application error issue for zero length 1D elements is resolved.
